Contrary to popular belief, and the views expressed here around the 6MOB office, not everybody has stories of wonder and awe from their journey abroad. Not everybody is able to dig into the trenches of ministry and come back with tales of gut-wrenching fables.
Some people seem to just simply, disappear.
Where do they go? What do they do? Who are they with?
I bet all of these questions are just burning a whole through your mind. In fact, you may even recall that the 6MOB team disappeared for a little while, and suddenly, just appeared again.
Much like the elusive bible college students in the summer months, we decided a time of hiding was necessary. But we’re not here to talk about 6MOB and their wanderings, were here to talk about our bible college student.
So what happens when the bible college student disappears? What are they really doing? I have a couple of thoughts…
1. Missions work
They may have fallen off the provable map because they were charting their own. They may have hopped a plane and landed somewhere, in some poor country, and go to serve and hide away from the trappings of real life. They come back with a global perspective, and newfound distaste for their iPhone, and a sweet tan.
2. Back to their home church
The bible college student may return home in exchange for a year’s supply of care packages, and found themselves plugged right back in to their old home church. But they’ve come loaded. Fully loaded, if you will, with tons of knowledge, ready to unleash on unsuspecting, innocent bystanders.
3. Working a summer job
They may have wised up and decided not to be too dependent on their roommates and get themselves a summer job! Likely options? Coffee shops, Day cares, who knows, maybe a paid internship.
4. Getting married
The ultimate in bible college student disappearance. Marriage. The bible college students and their brand spanking new spouse will disappear over the summer for, well you know what. But this may included a little missions work on their honeymoon, bringing us full circle.
