157 | Hooking Up At Camp

A couple of weeks ago, I went to camp. College camp. Like High School camp for college students. It’s kind of incredible. I come out of working in youth ministry, so I have a special passion for camps and, I think, a unique view of camps.

One of the very special moments at camp is finding the love of your life. There’s something about looking across the cafeteria, eating your slightly burned lasagna with the smell of your not showering for three days and seeing someone with light shining down on their head. They are the one. And you’ve found them. At camp.

Where do you go from here? Make your move? Slide over to the other side of the table and start up a conversation? Maybe. But, for the bible college student, this process may be slightly different.

Meeting someone at camp may be almost indistinguishable from the average Joe, but the next move is where the deviation begins. Hooking up at camp is oh so different then what people might assume. Never fear, I’ve done the research for you.

Here are the steps for the bible college camp hook up:

1. Find your target

This is pretty straight forward. Look out for the person who’s got their hands raised high, and their prayer noises good and loud.

2. Strike up a conversation

Start chatting about the theological implications of you and them together and you’re in.

3. Ditch your friends and spend the whole weekend with them

Now, this is important. If you really want to show your freshly acquired love that you care, ditch your friends. Because we all know that a good cam hookups trumps your bro and ladies.

4. Hold hands

This is a big step. Maybe one night over a camp fire, after a particularly heart felt message, starring up at the start, your fingers interlock. You’re in. This is it.

5. Stand next to each other during the next worship gathering

Yup. This is the correct order. You might be thinking that step four should go after step five. You’re wrong on two levels. First: four always goes before five, crazy. Second: there is no bigger move with the bible college camp hookup than attending and sitting next to each other at a worship gathering. If you’ve made it to step five, guaranteed you’re going home with a more than some dirty t-shirts.

I believe you have forgotten the most important step in your camp relationship. Prayer. Nothing says we are meant to be together more than praying with that special someone. The benefits of prayer are almost endless. Not only do you get to show him/her how much you love the Lord but you also have the opportunity to hold hands. Maybe, If you are feeling compelled you could ask him/her if she needs prayer for any specific matter. It’s a way get to know her on a deeper and more intimate level. Once you have prayed with him/her it’s game over. Also, it’s a way to keep things going once camp is over. “Oh, hey, I was wondering. If you ever need prayer for anything just give me a call. Here’s my number 123-1234.”

This is very good advice but what if you feel that God is leading you to be single? I would think that you should pray about it before you start to just hook up with someone at camp. I know that your not saying that camp is for hooking up, I know that your saying that there’s nothing wrong with hooking up at camp. I don’t see anything wrong with it but I would say to someone who’s thinking about hooking up, Pray about it then pursue.
